TARRYTOWN, NY — In the building trades, the cornerstone guides the workers in their course; it is the standard of measure and alignment. The Leviticus Fund presented its 2023 Cornerstone Award to Sadie McKeown, President of The Community Preservation Corporation (CPC), in recognition of her leadership in addressing energy performance, efficiency and decarbonization as a part of the mortgage process.
“Throughout her career, Sadie has been a fierce advocate for moving the real estate industry and built environment towards carbon neutrality,” said Greg Maher, Executive Director of the Leviticus Fund. “Forty years ago, one of the goals of the founders of the Leviticus Fund was to protect and share the earth’s resources, and we’re so pleased to honor Sadie’s efforts to help make that goal a reality.”
CPC was formed in 1974 and is a leading nonprofit multifamily housing finance company. McKeown began her career at CPC as a Mortgage Originator in 1992, becoming President in 2022. In that role, she leads the development and implementation of CPC’s growth strategy and oversees all of the company’s field offices, initiatives, and its equity and impact investing platforms. Sadie built and continues to lead CPC’s sustainability platform, focused on driving higher performance, resilient, healthier housing and creating economic opportunity in disadvantaged communities. Under her guidance, CPC created its innovative “underwriting efficiency” financing method that incorporates the potential savings from energy and water efficiency measures into the financing of first mortgages for multifamily buildings, leading to CPC’s financing of thousands of sustainable units.
As a board member of the New York State Housing Finance Agency, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation, Sadie works to align climate and affordability in the multifamily space. She previously served on the New York State Climate Action Council’s Energy Efficiency and Housing Advisory Panel and the NYSERDA Technical Advisory Group for the Electrification Roadmap. Sadie also acts locally, serving on the Housing Affordability Taskforce, the Comprehensive Plan Management Committee and the Municipal Housing Authority Board in Tarrytown, New York where she lives.
