Retail Recruitment Strategies for Main Streets!

Sparked by the success of CPC’s June 2008 Hudson Valley Main Street Summit, CPC will be featuring a series of focused summits, which concentrate on ways to help to enhance the Hudson Valley's ability to develop vibrant Main Streets and downtowns.

CPC’s most recent summit entitled “Retail Recruitment Strategies for Main Streets,” was held October 17th at the Paramount Theatre in Middletown. Middletown is one of a number of urban areas throughout the region that has been undergoing a successful downtown revitalization.

The Hudson Valley Main Street Summit was sponsored by CPC, the Downtown Middletown Business Improvement District (BID) and the City of Middletown. The free seminar and networking event joined over 60 retail development experts, economic developers and business leaders from throughout the Hudson Valley region.

About the Conference


Retail Recruitment Strategies for Main Streets took a close look at the importance of attracting and retaining retail businesses to the economic health of individual cities as well as the entire region. Topics covered at the conference included: The Retail Attraction Process, Market Analysis, Retail Recruitment Strategies, Retail Retention: Things You Can Do Today To Make Your Downtown Better and an overview of Middletown and the formation of the BID.

The presentations were made by: John Degnan, Executive Director, Downtown Middletown BID; Joe Getz, General Partner, JGSC Group, LLC; Michael J. Berne, President and Founder, MJB Consulting; Larisa Ortiz, Director, Commercial Markets Advisory Service, Local Initiative Support Corporation; Ralph DiBart, Executive Director, New Rochelle BID and Mary Paden, Vice President of CPC’s Hudson Valley Regional Office, who led a Q&A session and helped to identify next steps for the attendees.

The event provided attendees with a great opportunity to network and discuss valuable ideas and suggestions to help develop thriving downtown Main Streets.
